Button Up

Information on Button Up

Button Up is the brainchild of Garry John Kane. Garry John is currently the bass player with Scottish legends The Proclaimers and has also played with Marianne Faithfull, The McCluskey Brothers, Justin Currie, Button Up, Toy Tin Soldier and Raymond meade to name but a few. Button Up first came to life in 1998 when Garry, joined by drummer Ross McFarlane and keyboardist Paul Gallagher, started gigging around Glasgow with a unique hammond driven mod/soul sound that quickly gathered them a loyal following.

2008 saw the release of the 10 track album No Dancin’ On The Tables which featured a stellar cast of guest musicians including Justin Currie (Del Amitri), Brian McFie (The Big Dish) and Ken McCluskey (The Bluebells). The album was produced by Mark Freegard (The Breeders and Del Amitri) and proved to be a hit with radio stations and dj’s around the globe.The album spawned the ep I’m Gonna Leave You, which features Justin Currie on lead vocals on the title track. the Soul singer Joseph Malik also sang on two tracks
Button Up had a line up change for the next album Modena. Released in 2011 with Sara Kerr leading the vocal on the first single Listen To Your Heartbeat which gained a lot of airplay on radio and also a Dj favourite on the soul/mod club scene. Greg Kane (Hue & Cry) shot the video in Glasgow and has been very popular on our you -tube channel. Mark Hannaway (Combat Rock) sang on the track “Someday”. Modena was produced by Andy Gardner who became guitarist with the band for live shows during this period. Button Up embarked on a successful run of live shows which led to the next Button Up release… Covered ep.
The ep was released in late 2012 and gained instant airplay with the track Bert’s Apple Crumble played on the Craig Charles Funk and Soul show… the Holy Grail for any band on the scene. The band released the single Inhaler, a cover of the Miles Kane classic. The track is featured on the Button Up album Beat Street
Button Up also feature on the charity album Specialized 2 album for Teenage Cancer Trust released June 2013 with a cover of The Beat track Rough Rider recorded and produced by Bobby Heatlie @ Coloursound studios Edinburgh.
Button Up then embarked on next album Beat Street 2014 recorded and produced by Greg Kane @ his wonderful Red Key Studios Glasgow. The album received great reviews and radio play across the country. A new line up and current line up (2016) went out and toured Beat Street all over the UK which led to new recordings in 2015.
January 2015 Button Up recorded the single “Not Interested” with Joe Kane producing it at his home Studio Glasgow. The fantastic video for “Not Interested” directed by Martin Conaghan made it the bands most successful single to date.
May 2015 Button Up were asked to Record “Garageland” for Specialized 4 tribute to the Clash. It was recorded/produced by Clash historian and drummer Derek Mckee @ his home studio in Wishaw Lanarkshire. It was release in August 2015.
Oct 2015 Button Up returned to Producer Joe Kane to release latest single “Never Knowing”. Martin Conaghan (Copydesk) filmed and produced another fantastic video. The single has been played on a lot of radio stations and has become a firm favourite in the live set.
Feb 2016 Button Up return to record a track for Specialized 5 “One Heart” a tribute to Bob Marley and the Wailers at coloursound studios Edinburgh with Bobby Heatlie back on Production duties. More info on track coming soon and release date is sept/oct 2016
