Bluebird Parade is a genre-defying seven-piece based in the East Midlands that features an eclectic group of musicians including songwriter Jon Read (former trumpet-player for ska legends The Specials, trumpet-player for Prince Buster, dep for innumerable others).

The band began in 2001 as Summerhouse, producing the homespun Ghost Writing before folding quietly into obscurity. Jon, ex-pat New Yorker Ming Nagel (singer and lyricist), and soulful trombonist Russ Coleman rose from the ashes to form Bluebird Parade in 2006, at that point enlisting the talents of Jon’s old drummer comrade Styx. In 2011 we released – or passed on to close friends and intimates – our debut album, The Wednesday Night Island. House-builder extraordinaire and crossword aficionado Will Lindsay then took over on bass in 2012, and Thure Gade Johansen stepped in on guitar in 2014, adding to the band’s socialist and cosmopolitan credentials. And because six band members just weren’t enough, in 2015 we poached everyone’s favorite music teacher, the ubiquitous doyenne of woodwinds Su Robinson, from Kingsize ska band to add coolness and depth to the brass section. In October 2015 the band Songs from the Headland. Songs from the Headland mixes tight rhythms, brass and strings, haunting vocals, and Nordic Noir guitars to craft a journey through an eclectic landscape of sound.
